Yap

Fast, private voice dictation for Mac and Windows

Yap is voice dictation for Mac and Windows. Hold a shortcut, speak, and let go: Yap turns your speech into clean, punctuated text and types it into the app you are using, from email and docs to chat and terminals. Speech recognition runs on your computer, so recordings are never uploaded. Works offline, 25 languages detected automatically, with a searchable local history. Free for 3 days with no account or card, then a 10-day trial, then USD 6.90/month or USD 69/year.

Yap Online Dictation logo

Yap Online Dictation

Free online dictation that stays on your device.

Speak and get text you can edit, copy or download as .txt. Speech is recognized in your browser with OpenAI's Whisper model, so your voice is never uploaded. Free, no sign-up, no limit on recordings. Choose English only, or any of 99 languages with automatic detection. Each recording runs up to two minutes. The first use downloads a model of about 80 MB that the browser keeps, so recognition then works offline. Works best in current desktop Chrome or Edge. Nothing is stored on a server and there is no account. Made by the team behind Yap, the dictation app for Mac and Windows.
